Southwestern Regional Director, Scouting For All
San
Diego County Board Member, Scouting For All Alliance for Human Rights
Howard Menzer (San Diego, California, USA)
Click or copy from here: howmen@sbcglobal.net
Howard
Menzer was a long time active member of the Boy Scouts of America
and earned the rank
of Eagle Scout (1951, Troop 234, Bronx Council, Bronx, New York)
which he resigned at the 2001 rally in protest of the discriminatory
practices of the Boy Scouts of America. He holds Vigil
Honor in the Order Of The Arrow.
Howard was Scoutmaster for 23 years
and worked on both District and Council levels as well as
Lodge and Chapter levels in the Order Of The Arrow. He also
taught CPR and First Aid as a Red Cross instructor for four years. He
has worked with the Red Cross since 1959. They do not discriminate.
Since Howard will not hide the fact that he is
gay, he is no longer welcome in nor does he wish to be part
of an organization that discriminates. Therefore, at the end
of 1999 he resigned from the Boy Scouts of America and the
protests began.
In 2000 there were just six protesters,
at our annual rally. In 2001, 2002, and
2003 there were more than 150 protesters
at
each rally. Howard is also the
Southwestern Regional Director
(California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada,
Utah, Colorado, and Hawaii) for Scouting For All National and
still holds the position of Board Member for
the San Diego Scouting
For All Alliance.
Please feel free to contact Howard with any questions
regarding general information, membership, donations, or volunteering
in California, Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, or New Mexico.
I feel
that such a wonderful organization as the Boy Scouts should not
and must not alienate America's gay youth. As a former
Boy Scout, I have wonderful memories and experiences as a Boy Scout
growing up in the Pacific Northwest. Every youth should have the
same opportunity to join and experience what scouting is all about,
if they so desire.

Serving Marin, Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino Counties. The Gay Lesbian
and Straight Education Network of the North Bay strives to assure
that each member of every school community is valued and respected,
regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
We believe that
an atmosphere of respect engenders a positive sense of self, which
is the basis of educational achievement and personal
growth. Since homophobia and heterosexism undermine a healthy school
climate, we work to educate teachers, students, administrators
and the public at large about the damaging effects these forces
have
on youth and adults alike. We recognize that forces such as racism and sexism have similarly
adverse impacts on communities, and we support schools in seeking
to redress all such inequities.
GLSEN-North Bay
seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for
the positive contribution it makes in creating a more
vibrant and diverse community. We welcome as members any individual, regardless of sexual orientation
or occupation, who is committed to seeing this philosophy realized
in schools at all levels from pre-school to college.

I am a gay RM [Returned Latter-day Saint or Mormon Missionary] and
former scout involved in the LDS Church's Youth Program misdiagnosed
'HIV+' for 11+ years and the moderator and founder of an on-line
and on-land fellow-citizenship of over 200 AIDS Dissident Saints.
However, our efforts in social justice are ecumenical.
DISSIDENT and
SAINT is an AIDS Dissident Scientific and Alternative Health Restoration
Faith-based [Latter-day Saint, Mormon, RLDS, Community
of Christ] Social Action and Educational Exchange supporting informed
consent and access to a growing body of scientific, medical, and
epidemiological research endorsed by hundreds of Dissident Scientists,
including Nobel Laureates, along with Alternative Health Physicians
calling into question the conventional, pharmaceutically based medical
model for the alleged viral pathogenesis of "HIV=AIDS" and
the causatives and curatives for the 29 previously known and unrelated
'AIDS' clinically redefined illnesses.
We endorse a
multi-factorial approach to immune sufficiency and sustainability
in addressing the oxidative stressors including physical [malnutrition],
chemical [toxicological], biological [STD's], psychological [chronic
stress], and spiritual [religious reconciling] issues imposed--
of which 'HIV'
non-specific, non-confirmatory marker "positivity" is no reliable
indicator of worthiness or wellness.
Disbelievers in a SAME-SEX=SIN=SICKNESS mindset having lead to the
unquestioned acceptance of the HIV=AIDS=DEATH paradigm.
We support the
inclusion of gays in Scouting, from the context of the very same
Restoration Faith tradition which has been used by
too many Latter-day Legalists to condemn the loving, consensual relationships
between the same-sex.

My name is Garrett Biggs. I heard about Steven and Scouts for All
when I saw a special on PBS about it. I was shocked and sad to hear
about what the Boy Scouts are doing. After watching the program I
thought to my self that I could and should help out in anyway I can.
So I found the web site and said I have to do something. Therefore,
I now join the fight against discrimination. Contact me if you want
to
help end the discrimination of the Boy Scouts of America.
M.J. Christensen began Scouting in 1988 through the encouragement
of his Grandfather, in Colorado. He attained Eagle Scout and Vigil
Honor Order of the Arrow in the course of eight years in the Boy
Scouts. M.J. has also held the following positions in Boy Scouts:
Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader,
Vice Chapter Chief, Chapter Chief, Lodge Activities Chairman, and
Lodge Vice Chief of Program.
He also experienced Philmont
Scout Ranch (New Mexico), two Sectional Conclaves, National Junior
Leader Instructor
Camp, two seasons as volunteer staff for Tahosa Challenge, (his Council’s
COPE program), and two summers at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch on
staff.
M.J. as joined
Scouting for All, due to the Boy Scout’s blatant
bigotry because of his love of the Boy Scout program. If the foundation
of Scouting was not basically good and the programs did not have
merit, why spend the time and energy to try to change this youth
organization?
As long as the
Boy Scouts of America continue their membership policy of discrimination,
M.J. will advocate that the Boy Scouts change their membership
policy from exclusion to inclusion. It is morally irreprehensible
that
the
Boy Scouts
of America continue to revoke membership status to anyone who is
gay or non-theist. M.J. looks forward to the day when all youth and
adults will be welcomed back into Scouting with open arms. Scouting
isn’t
about gay or straight, male or female, Christian or agnostic, it’s
about love.

The Civil Unions-Civil Rights Movement is a statewide coalition of
gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) and allied persons,
organizations, and institutions to achieve equality and justice for
ALL GLBT citizens in Hawaii.
The CU-CR Movement is committed to applying the principles and strategies
of love and relentless massive nonviolent resistance used by Mohandas
Gandhi and Martin Luther King to redeem Hawaii society from homophobia,
sexism, religious intolerance, and our government's denial of equal
rights and justice for GLBT citizens.
In addition to pursuing our rights in the legislature and courts,
the relentless nonviolent actions of the CU-CR Movement are designed
to raise public awareness, educate the community about institutionalized
discrimination, and unify Hawaii's communities in the GLBT struggle
for freedom, equality, and justice.
